Regular readers of Rarities will already be familiar with singer-songwriter Kina Grannis. Hailing from California, this talented lady has clocked up more than 50 million views of her performances (playing covers of other artists' songs and her own self-penned tracks) since setting up her YouTube channel in 2007. Kina made and released her debut album while still studying at the University of Southern California and her 2010 effort Stairwells, her fourth studio album, included some lovely little numbers, many of which had already featured on her YouTube channel before the album's release. She also had the honour of being invited to play Sarah McLachlan's all-female travelling music festival Lilith Fair last summer.
Stairwells is gorgeous album that perfectly showcases Kina's sweet infectious tones. The album's lead single 'Valentine', accompanied by an adorable video (below), proved hugely popular and has clocked up almost 8 million views on YouTube.
In a move her Irish fans will be very pleased with, Kina has recently announced she will play Academy 2, Dublin on Saturday 1st October. Tickets are €10 plus booking fee and are available from Ticketmaster.ie. Further tour details for Kina are available from her official website here.
