My lovely cousin reminded me of these guys recently and since then they have been a regular feature on my iPod. Tilly and the Wall are an indie-pop band from Nebraska who are particularly identifiable for their percussion sound, which comes from a tap dancing bandmember as opposed to a drum kit. The band- consisting of husband and wife Derek and Jamie Pressnall, Neely Jenkins, Nick White and Kianna Alarid- came together in 2001 and have since released three full-length studio albums.
You may recognise their sound, which can be described as bursting with enthusiastic hyperactivity while emanating a bitter sweet melancholy, from American TV shows such as 90210 and the soundtrack for the film Whip It. And they have also recorded their own version of the ABC song for Seasame Street! You can find Tilly and the Wall on MySpace or at their official website. Start with their album o- definitely their greatest achievement yet.
